Exploring the Universe

Come explore the universe

Every explorer needs a home base. Elkhart Public Library will be the launching pad for families to explore our universe. It's all about NASA @ My Library.

As just one of 75 libraries in the country working with NASA, Elkhart Public Library will be focusing on programs moving forward the ideas of STEAM education - science, technology, engineering, arts and math. And what better way to start than the idea of space exploration.

But this is only the beginning.

“It is our hope that children and families exposed to scientific ideas in a library even will want to learn more,” says Allison McLean, director of Young People’s Services. “We want kids to see their potential as scientists and to learn about the career opportunities NASA has to offer."

What is STEAM, and why are we working on it?

Science, technology, engineering, art and math are the fastest-growing segments of our economy. Employers are positioning for future success and will need a workforce to support it. Elkhart Public Library is helping the next generation get excited about STEAM and achieve their life goals. Children are natural scientists. They are born to observe, discover and experiment.
